Horgon Greyjoy
Horgon Greyjoy was an Ironborn from House Greyjoy. He began his reign in 31 A.I. after inheriting Pyke after the Slaughter of Nagga's Hill. He self styled himself 'Lord Reaper', and was first reaver of the Iron Isles for much of his life.
Appearance
Horgon Greyjoy had blue eyes and black hair, characteristic of his house. He was clean shaven as an adult, and kept his hair in a tight warriors braid. He was rarely seen without one of his characteristic iron masks in adulthood.
History
Early Life
Horgon was born to his father Vickon and a lowly salt wife on Pyke. The youngest of three brothers, the other two being rock sons he was not destined to inherit anything. After the Slaughter of Nagga's Hill he became the sole member of House Greyjoy. He made peace with House Greyiron and swore fealty in return for concessions. He began his life as a raider as an oarsmen aboard Grey King. He spent much of his youth traveling his island between House Wynch, House Botley and House Ironmaker learning each of their peoples unique crafts and skills. He helped build his own flagship The Iron Kraken with Botley shipmaker guidance, and learned from the greybeard smiths of Seagrave how to forge their unique iron weapons. He forged for himself Salt Price a sword that is said to glow green when the Drowned God is strong.
Lord Reaper of Pyke
Upon reaching the age of manhood, Horgon embarked on a wide campaign of raids in the North under Cragorn Ironmaker. He had proposed a competition between the great houses of the Iron Island's for who could capture the most plunder. Horgon battled the king of The Greenwood, House Forrester and other Northern Houses. He attempted to subdue Bear Island by wrestling the Woodfoot king for submission, though he failed on his first attempt.
Horgon would invade participate in the invasion of Fair Isle, capturing the House Farman king and sacrificing him to the Drowned God. The following spring he led raids deep in the The Reach managing to plunder Red Lake and earn the ire of House Crane and House Gardener. Upon his return he founded the Drowned Reavers after hearing of Andal knights and their religious vows.
The Iron Reaver
Horgon began to become more aloof from administrative duties and more in tune with the sea, with some saying he was possessed by the Drowned God. His raids grew in size and intensity, often openly attacking larger kingdoms. He battled the men of House Ryder, House Lannister and House Webber.
In 57 A.I., the Ironborn led an an invasion of the Arbor, which the Greyjoy's also participated in. Following the war Houses Greyiron and Greyjoy landed at the Crag and raided the entire coast from the Crag to Lannisport, sacrificing many of the city's denizens.
One of Horgon's salt sons Tymor Greyjoy became involved in Dorne, throwing his support behind House Dayne in return for lands. He was called to fight several wars in the dunes, before House Greyjoy's involvement waned in the area.
Following the battles in Dorne, he sought out supplies in the fertile Riverlands before winter, battling Hosue Mallister and House Mudd at Seagard, routing them and putting the town to the torch. Victarion Volmark the future Captain of Harlaw was his ward and participated in the battle.
Final Sacrifice
Horgon Greyjoy sacrificed many thralls, captives, weirwood branches from High Heart and even himself in a grand sacrifice to the Drowned God, where he was consumed by an enormous Kraken off the coast of Pyke. He remains a legendary figure in Ironborn culture, and is revered as the patron of Pyke.
