History
Many believed that the babe Cigna gave birth to was cursed due to his shedding skin. The household of Last Hearth feared the young Mors. As he grew up, he developed a cold personality and made few friends. Mors resented his father, for King Hoarfrost was a boisterous man who loved to laugh and drink with his men. Hoarfrost made many friends and was admired by his household and many of the men who fought for him. The accursed Witchborn knew he would never have that kind of love. Despite his coldness, Mors did have a soft spot for his mother. Through her, he learned of the Gods and their desire for blood. When Mors matured, he began fighting in his father's wars. During the reign of King Hoarfrost, the Umbers were always at war with the Boltons. Despite many fierce battles, neither Hoarfrost nor the Red King Rogar ever achieved a decisive victory. As the heir to Last Hearth, Mors Umber negotiated an alliance with Morra Crowl of Skagos. He sealed the pact by marrying Munda Crowl. This ensured that the Skagosi did not raid Umber lands and instead focused on the lands of the Frosts and Boltons. After defending the wall against the Warg King, the elderly Hoarfrost Umber started his final war against the Boltons. During the war, he fell sick and passed. Mors assumed command along with his Stark allies. Together, they defeated the Red King and his Andal allies, and Mors returned home with additional land for his Kingdom. Mors brought a captured Andal knight to Last Hearth. In a grand ceremony, he sacrificed the Knight before his heart tree. It is noted that after the sacrifice, winters in the Last Lands were warmer for the remainder of his reign and began to get cold again once Mors passed. King Mors forced Norrey and Long clans to pay him tribute. This was achieved through short and decisive wars. For most of the people, King Mors' reign was a time of peace and prosperity, a stark contrast to the constant wars that had preceded him. The Skagosi did briefly try to raid the Last Lands following the death of Morra Crowl. Their raiding party was ruthlessly cut down, though. Mors had two wives and several children. He had little affection for them. Once, he had found his firstborn kissing another boy. Mors marked Rylen as weak from that day on, despite Rylen growing to be one of the Last Lands' fiercest warriors. The Witchborn constantly berated Rylen, hoping that this would strengthen the man. Ultimately, though, Rylen could never please his father.
