Tristifer IV Mudd is King of House Mudd, ruler of the Rivers and the Hills, renowned for his decisive justice and his efforts to reunite the fractured Riverlands against the Andal invaders [1].

Appearance

Tristifer stands over six feet tall with a broad, muscular body befitting his title. His hair and beard are a deep auburn, and his stern features are offset by keen green eyes. He wears a bronze crown set with emeralds.

Personality

Firm and fair, Tristifer values unity above all else. He believes in swift, unyielding justice—earning him his epithet “the Hammer of Justice”—yet he is capable of mercy toward those who bend the knee. He speaks little of mercy he has shown but never forgets the treachery of those who defy him.

History

Tristifer inherited the crown at a low ebb for House Mudd: during his father’s reign, both Brackens and Blackwoods had declared themselves kings, and several lords challenged Mudd rule. Even before his father’s death, Tristifer had already crushed those uprisings and won early victories over the first Andal raiders.

Now seated at Oldstones, he commands a realm that once stretched “from the Neck to Duskendale, and from the Mountains of the Vale to the mountains of the Westerlands.” With Andal warbands landing daily, his greatest task is to bind the Riverlands through alliances or conquest, and to defend against the Andals.

Quotes by Tristifer

“In the face of what awaits us, unity is more important than anything. If the hammer must fall upon them to secure it, so be it—and together we will drive this madness of the seven‑pointed star from our lands.” — A speech King Tristifer IV held before his man.

Quotes about Tristifer

“He is the last relic of the great kings of the Rivers and the Hills. If we fell him, the land will be ours—and that day is coming soon.” — thoughts of Lord Armistead Vance.

“The Mudds have long since forgotten that we Fishers were kings before them.” — thoughts of King Throst Fisher.

“I’ve heard Tristifer can crush a stone to dust with one hand. What a joke. I can pulverize a boulder with a single kick!” — thoughts of King Brogg Bracken.
