The March of the Slain
The men of the Slayne retreated into these hills for protection from the storm and sea. But a tide washes over them now, washing away their resistance and drowning their keeps. The branches of the great Slayne river now run red. - PDXRP Server[1]
The March on the Slayne refers to a campaign undertaken by the Storm King Erich VII Durrandon to reintegrate the First Men along the river Slayne that had seceded from the Stormlands between 31-32 A.I.
Prelude
The Durrandons, after sending messengers to the Slayne houses asking for a meeting, received only the Slayne Magnar and Densmore Magnar. The Gore and the Redwind both rejected the messengers sent to them, and the Crow's messenger did not return. The Durrandons, upon speculation that the Crow killed their messenger, prepared to face him - however, Qarlton Durrandon rode forth before the army could be mustered in an attempt to capture the Crow Magnar. After surviving an ambush by Jon Crow, Qarlton cornered him and the two dueled, resulting in Qarlton losing his hand.
Thus did the Storm King decide that conquest would be the only path for the Slayne clans to join the Kingdom of the Storm. Erich marshalled his forces, and prepared for conflict. The Densmore vowed to be a loyal vassal should the Durrandons win, but offered no support. The Slayne Magnar entered into an alliance with the Storm King, and the remaining clans allied together against him.
The March
The Crow, Gore, and Redwind mustered their forces together as allies, erecting outposts and reinforcing their keeps and valleys, Erich's own forces outnumbered the Slayne houses near a hundred to one, and they were quickly swarmed by the antlermen. Though the first skirmishes resulted in equal casualties, the men of the Slayne were constantly engaged in a fighting retreat from the start and were forced into the hills and the banks along the river. There they would be butchered to the last man in their hundreds, and for days after a great number of corpses floated down the Slayne.
Flight of the Crow
Jon Crow and his family escaped from Crow's Nest before the Durrandons could capture them, and they fled into the Rainwood.
