Magnar

Magnar is a term in the Old Tongue, the language of the First Men across Westeros.

Cultural Context

Magnar's most literal meaning when compared to the Andal tongue is that of 'Lord', or even more simply 'Ruler'. The Magnar has similar rights and power over his land as an Andal lord, though perhaps without the implication that a Lord should swear his fealty to a king.

In more informal settings, a Magnar may not be referred to by his formal title, but rather simply by using the name of his House or Clan as a title in itself. In certain cases, their first name may also serve this function.
