Joseth Rowan is Lord of Goldengrove under the rule of King Gwayne IV 'the Gods Fearing' Gardener during the Andal Invasions.

Lord Joseth Rowan of Goldengrove.
Arms of House Rowan. Words: ‘Unwithering Resolve’

Appearance[edit]

Joseth is a broad-shouldered man with pale skin, clear blue eyes, and a thick flax-gold beard that matches the straight hair falling to his collar.

Personality[edit]

Grave and devout, Joseth places the Old Gods above all concerns. He speaks softly yet holds unshakeable conviction: the groves of Goldengrove will be watered, if need be, with the blood of volunteers, or captive foes, so that the ancient trees might thrive. His loyalty to House Gardener is equally rigid; reverence for the King and Garth Greenhand shapes every decision he makes.

History[edit]

Goldengrove’s weirwoods survived both the Dawn Age and the coming of the First Men; under Joseth they remain a living heart of the Cult of the Greenhand. As Andal war-bands press into the shores of the Vale, the Riverlands and the Blackwater, the Lord of Goldengrove doubles the guards on his sacred groves and renews the rituals that bind his folk to the Old Gods.

Volunteers have stepped forward to spill their life’s blood at the roots. When prisoners fall into Rowan hands, some are likewise given to the trees, a practice common among certain northern Reach lords.

He died young on his journey to the Arbor, because Master Lester from Vineport, a vasall from Unwin Kidwell refused to help him and let the assault on him happen.
