Jaime Farring

From Bronze and Iron: An Andal Invasions AGOT Roleplay Project

Ser Jaime Farring was a knight and the founding lord of House Farring in the Riverlands. Originally from Andalos, he crossed the Narrow Sea during the early Andal invasions and eventually swore fealty to King Tristifer IV Mudd. He had held the keep of Milkstone by the shores of the God's Eye.

Appearance[edit]

Ser Jaime was a weathered knight with white-streaked blond curls.

Personality[edit]

Jaime was known for his deep sense of honour, piety, and disdain for cruelty. Though shaped by war, he maintained a knightly ideal of justice and mercy. He held a strong belief in the Seven, but was critical of those who claimed righteousness while acting without virtue. He valued action and conviction over empty titles or reputations and was unafraid to voice his opposition to dishonour, even among supposed allies.

Though principled, he was not without wit or a sharp tongue. Jaime did not suffer hypocrites lightly and preferred direct speech over courtly pleasantries. Still, he was respected for his measured judgment and fairness.

History[edit]

Jaime and his twin brother Argos were born in Andalos. Their family fled westward to escape the Valyrian expansion, originally intending to settle in the Vale. A storm scattered their fleet, and the twins landed instead along the Blackwater, commanding one of the larger Andal hosts in the region.

Their parents perished during the voyage, and Jaime was left to lead alone when Argos drowned in the Blackwater Rush. He wandered the Blackwater and the Riverlands, earning respect as a knight and forging an alliance with House Peasbury. His travels led him to the Misty Isles, where he befriended King Thorst Fisher and married his daughter, Masha. His oldest son was named after the Fisher king.

Recognized for his martial prowess and honour, Jaime was approached by King Tristifer IV Mudd and joined his campaigns against Armistead Vance. After proving himself in the war, Jaime was granted the keep of Milkstone and lordship over the nearby Godsfort. Under his leadership, House Farring established a permanent presence in the Riverlands.

Steelmere Watch, the second castle of House Farring, was completed under Jaime’s rule at the mouth of the Gleaming Beck, a stream that flowed into the God's Eye. Built from limestone under the direction of Hendry, a master builder trained in Andalos, it became the new main seat of House Farring.

Though Jaime had entered the Riverlands as an outsider, he came to be respected among the Mudds, even besting King Tristifer in a duel and earning a place at his side in war councils. No other Andal was so trusted; Tristifer allowed Jaime’s septons and septas to preach freely in his lands—an exceptional privilege. Yet not all remained well.

The bond between Mudd and Farring began to fray during the tense negotiations with Armistead Vance over the fate of Roslin Mallister and her children. Jaime urged compromise, but Tristifer refused. The final breach came when Aldhelm Darklyn insulted Jaime during a meeting at the Crossroads Inn about the fate of Maidenpool. Jaime challenged him to a duel; Aldhelm refused, and the Mudds neither intervened nor defended Jaime’s claim.

When war erupted again, Jaime did not answer the Mudd call. Instead, he marched against House Nutt, whose magnar was his own kinsman—Throst Farring’s nephew and a grandson of King Tristifer IV. But Jaime never reached the field. He drowned under mysterious circumstances, and command of the Farring host passed to Throst. Rather than continue the campaign, Throst laid down his sword.

Quotes by Jamie Farring[edit]

“I do not recall the scriptures saying that we be merciless and there is no honour worthy of the warrior in executing a man in chains, whose only crime was being blind to the light of the Seven. Those are the acts of dragon lords, not anointed knights.” – Jamie Farring to Elissa of the Green Order.

Quotes about Jamie Farring[edit]

“He is known as the Fish Knight. Some say he is the most honourable knight in the Riverlands” – Tales spoken in the Misty Isles.
