House Upcliff is a mysterious and feared line of [[First Men]], ruling over the storm swept Witch Isle. Their blood is old, their roots deep in the strange magics of the sea and sky, and their name is spoken with awe and unease in equal measure. Their seat is Upcliff's Haven.

== History ==
Centuries ago, the Upcliffs seized Witch Isle and made it their own, forming customs unlike those of any mainland house. Their isolation, surrounded by cold tides and veiled in constant mist, allowed their traditions, steeped in prophecy, sea lore, and shadowy rites, to thrive. Tales of Upcliff magic spread. Visions of the future, curses spoken, and pacts with beings beneath the waves. Whether myth or truth, such stories have kept enemies, and sometimes friends, at bay.

While many fear the Upcliffs, they are not without diplomacy. For generations they have maintained peace with the Royces of Runestone. Their warriors instead raid south, launching swift assaults on river towns and coastal hamlets. Though Witch Isle seems a world apart, House Upcliff keeps a sharp watch on the coming of the Andals, vowing to protect their land by steel, or spell.

Said to be married to a Merling King and able to speak prophecy to the sea, Ursula is the current matriarch of her house and high priestess of its feared traditions. She rides a blood red stallion and is known among both friend and foe for her power to curse, bless, and terrify with but a whisper. Her rule over Witch Isle is unchallenged, for none dare test the truth behind her legends.
