Unlike many First Men houses that measure greatness in land or armies, the Topps have ever sought closeness to the Old Gods rather than dominion over men. Their domain is one of craggy peaks and secret passes, known only to those born of the mountain.

Among the First Men, certain signs are held. Sacred pale skin, red eyes, white hair, features that echo the Weirwoods themselves, which bleed red from carved faces. King Helgarrd Topp, current king of TBD, was born with such marks and was seen as chosen, blessed by the gods and guided by spirits older than the hills themselves. His people follow him not for conquest or riches, but because he is what they believe a king should be. Touched by the Gods.
