Arms of House Moonfell. Words: 'Light Ever Gleaming'

House Moonfell is an old house of First Man blood. They serve as one of the few First Man vassals of Lord Corbray. Their seat is Rathmore.

History

The Age of Heroes

Legend speaks of an ancient berserker who led hunters through the wilds of the Vale. One night, he dreamt of the moon cracking, a glowing shard falling to earth, its resting place clear in his mind. Trusting the vision, he led his party to the lands that would one day become Rathmore.

Though the land seemed untouched, he waited, undeterred by doubt, even when his companions accused him of chasing shadows. Days later, under a silent sky, the moon split before his very eyes, and a piece fell, blazing bright. He found it still warm, still glowing, and took a fragment no larger than his palm.

There, he raised a keep and claimed a new name, Moonfell. To this day, House Moonfell is said to guard that same shard, now a necklace, still gleaming with the light of the fallen moon.

The Coming of the Andals

For centuries, House Moonfell ruled quietly from Rathmore, a coastal stronghold nestled along the bountiful shores of the Lower Vale, far enough from the reach of the great First Man kings. Their gods were once the nameless ones of root and stone. With mountains rich with bronze behind them, they made their living from it, creating crude mines from which they would collect bronze for their swords. They would sell it to their neighbours, exchanging it for livestock and materials, but not House Breakstone, for they were sworn enemies of the Moonfells, always coveting those mountains which contained what theirs did not.

27 A.I.

Lord Derek Moonfell, driven by love, wed an Andal woman and found in her faith, a new life. His conversion to the Faith of the Seven was voluntary, a rare thing for the First Men, and his devotion soon saw him joined under the Seven by a septon in service to Lord Corwyn Corbray. In pledging his house to the Fingers, Derek placed his house among the some of the first of the First Men lords to kneel of their own accord.

31 A.I.

When King Dryn Hunter of Eastwald forsook his gods and bent the knee to the Faith of the Seven, his own bannermen turned against him in a furious revolt, denouncing both his crown and his gods. Among those who aided House Hunter was House Moonfell, bound by their shared worship of the Seven, they marched to the Hunters defense. Their aid was in vain, however, as King Yorwyck VI Royce cast his weight behind the rebels, sealing King Dryn Hunter's fate. Surrounded and outnumbered, the forces of Moonfell were broken alongside their allies at Longbow Hall.
