| King Vorcan Dryland oversaw the blending of his house with the Andal house of Qorgyle. His father was the ruling king during the onset of the Coming of the Andals, but Vorcan did not approve of his father's peaceful methods, so he overthrew him as a young man of eight-and-ten. He reigned in the desert for nearly sixty years and spent most of that time fighting wars against his various enemies, whether they be desert clansmen, Dayne, Fowler, or Yronwood.
| | Tamsyn was eight-and-twenty when he inherited the seat of Brimstone from his father. By the time Vorcan Dryland made his final walk into the desert to meet his gods, Tamsyn had already outlived many of his brothers who may have contested his inheritance. With a style of reign much different from Vorcan, Tamsyn spent his time consolidating the realm that his father had conquered. |
| | |
| A man of bounteous loins and numerous wives, Vorcan sired two dozen children—or near enough as to make no difference. Vorcan was said to have placed enormous value on his family, but the tragedy of his reign is that he outlived eight of his fifteen sons. The first was his eighth-born son who died sickly in the cradle. Three of his four eldest sons—Darren, Lucifer, and Gaynor—were all slain in a single battle fighting the Daynes of the Torrentine when Vorcan was a man of middling age; not a one of them living to see their twentieth nameday.
| |
| | |
| Over twenty years later, Vorcan's son Vorcan was slain in a battle by an Yronwood. Two short years after that, Vorcan's eldest living son, Derlyn—who had always been of ill-health—finally succumbed to his frailty. Finally, when the Longshanks was in his winter years, his son Godry died suddenly and unexpectedly of unknown causes and his youngest son, Denzel, was slain in a duel by Caston Dayne. In the end, Vorcan had suffered enough grief, so the old king marched into the desert to die of thirst walking amongst his gods.
