The Mountain and Vale, commonly known simply as, "The Vale", long even before the rise of House Arryn, was a region of extremes. High, cold peaks that ringed a lush, fertile interior. The terrain shaped their lives, isolating them from the great political shifts of the early kingdoms, that is, until the arrival of the Andals by sea.
