Maelstrom in Ironman's Bay

The Maelstrom in Ironman's bay refers to the unassailable storm plaguing the bay with storms and red foamy seas. House Mallister was particularly affected.

Origins edit

The origins of the Maelstrom are lost to time, but it is said on Pyke that Lord Reaper Cragorn Greyjoy attempted to summon a Kraken against Seagard under the guidance of the Drowned Men, similar to his ancestor Horgon Greyjoy. He raided the entire coast of the western shores of the continent for thralls, and harried them onto ships for his sacrifice. It is believed the death of Sam Greyjoy during the War in the Cape is what motivated this retribution.

Planning edit

In 148 A.I. Cragorn set sail with the full Gryejoy fleet, and a complement of Drowned Reavers to plunder the western shores. They struck out at the North, Kayce and Crakeport, and the heartlands of the Reach. House Greyjoy won a great victory against combined Gardener and Hightower forces at the battle of Blackcrown. Once the loot and thralls were secured, the next phase began.

Execution edit

Aboard their ships were the captured treasures of the last century, from Lannister Gold, Ironwood and Weirwood from the North, and lemons from Dorne. The holds were filled with thralls and captives, and a woman of House Hightower was tied to the mast of of the lead ship. A sacrifice was offered by the Greyjoys and Drowned Men, and what happened next is a matter of debate. Some say a Kraken appeared, ravaging the coast and whatever ship it could find. More zealous men say the Drowned God himself was summoned, and wreaked unholy havoc on the Andals along the shore, and his own. Cragorn Greyjoy survived with his brother Dagbert, master of the Drowned Reavers, but much of his fleet and drowned men were destroyed. In place of the choppy waters of Iron Man's Bay, a massive impenetrable Maelstrom rages, with water the color of blood washing on the shores of the mainland.
