Lymond “the Sea Lion” Hightower was the last crowned King of Oldtown, famed for smashing an ironborn invasion and binding his realm to the Gardeners by marriage.

History
When King Theon III Greyjoy swept south to punish the “green lands,” Lymond met him in Whispering Sound with newly built longships, destroyed the ironborn fleet, and slew Theon in single combat. Captured raiders were pressed into thralldom long enough to thicken Oldtown’s sea-walls, earning Lymond the fearsome name “Sea Lion.”[1]
Recognising Highgarden’s growing power, Lymond sought peace through a double wedding: he took King Garland II Gardener’s daughter to wife and wed his own daughter to the king. The pact ended Hightower kingship but elevated the house to greatest lordship of the Reach; Highgarden pledged to guard Oldtown by land, leaving Lymond free to pursue his “great purpose”, building the strongest navy in the Reach.[2]
His fleets secured the Redwyne Straits, his beacon tower guided trade, and his statue still surveys the harbor, gaze fixed seaward. Later Hightowers followed his creed: let Highgarden shield the hinterland while Oldtown “gazed outward, to the sea and the lands beyond.”
Quotes about Lymond Hightower
“The Sea Lion killed the Ironborn as ruthless as they deserve and found a new way for Oldtown in the Reach under the Gardeners.”
