During the early days of his reign, the Andal [[House Sunglass]] conquered the nearby island of Sweetport Sound and exiled [[House Sweet]], which sought refuge with him. As he had already taken a Sweet to wife, he granted the Sweets the land of Sweetmont to rule as his own vassals.
In 38 A.I., the Magnar Owen Sweet, head of House Sweet, and other vassals would demand Justin to venture outwards to make retake Sweetport Sound from the Sunglass' and Gullet Isle from [[House Quince]], both of which had expelled the [[First Men]] into the Hook as refugees. The Milk-Eye would march and take both isles in a matter of months, beheading Lord Lymond Sunglass and Lord Addam Quince, but allowing their sons to remain if they kept the weirwoods.
Later that year, Erich VII sent a messenger demanding the Milk-Eye kneel and restore Durrandon rule over the Hook. Justin sent the messenger back half-blinded, and with an insult, and war broke out immediately. Erich would march on Benthill Dale, intending to take the keep and move northwards. However Justin would march to the hills north of Erich, drawing the Stag King out, and routing his army there. Erich would return, depleted, and would again be defeated outside the walls of the Dale, with much of his army lost to the Masseys and a full retreat to [[Storm's End]] which ended the war.
