Members of House Umber are known to be large and boisterous, and claim to descend from giants of the Dawn Age. The Umbers of the Last Lands and the Boltons of the Dreadfort commonly feud over neighboring lands.

While best known among the smallfolk for wedding a woods-witch, his early reign is more oft characterized by scholars by the growing tension with the Boltons, and attempts at rapprochement with the Frost Kings.
