The Ryders have ruled the Rills as kings since after the Long Night. How many kings there have been, or when the Ryders first took power has been lost to history. In more recent centuries they have come into increasing conflict with their neighbours, as a multitude of kings attempt to assert dominance over the Rills - particularly the Barrow Kings of House Dustin, and the Kings of Winter from House Stark.
