Thus, the first [[Kingsmoot]] was held, where the Salt and Rock Kings elected [[Urras Ironfoot|Urras 'Ironfoot' Greyiron]]. Some thought that the elective system would reach a quick demise when Urras' son, [[Erich the Ugly|Erich 'The Ugly']], thought to claim the [[Driftwood Crown]] without being elected. However, after pressure built from the captains and kings, he broke the crown apart in his hands and threw the pieces into the sea. The tradition of breaking the old crown apart would linger through many High Kings of the Iron Islands.<ref name="Driftwood Kings" />
