Raventree Hall was old. Moss grew thick between its ancient stones, spiderwebbing up its walls like the veins in a crone's legs. Two huge towers flanked the castle's main gate, and smaller ones defended every angle of its walls. All were square. Drum towers and half-moons held up better against catapults, since thrown stones were more apt to deflect off a curved wall, but Raventree predated that particular bit of builder's wisdom.

House Brightstar of Dove Keep is a First Man house ruling the Blackwood Vale. They were originally the Blackwoods of Raventree Hall.

History[edit]

Background[edit]

Lord Hoster Blackwood, taken as a ward to Vancemark and raised in the Faith of the Seven, rejected the legacy of his ancestors. Declaring a new beginning, he renamed his house and founded House Brightstar, raising his banner of the star and the dove over Dove Keep. From there, he sought to bring order to the Blackwood Vale, enforcing the Faith of the Seven and establishing his rule on the ruins of Raventree Hall.

Seat and Region[edit]

House Brightstar rules from Dove Keep, a fortress in the Blackwood Vale. Once, a vast forest surrounded their seat. After a great flood swept in from Ironman Bay, most of old Raventree Hall and its surroundings were destroyed. Only the colossal white weirwood remained. [2]

Notable Members[edit]

  • Lord Hoster Brightstar - After his father and grandfather were slain by the Vances for their rebellion, he was taken to Vancemark and forced to learn the ways of the Seven. Choosing to leave the past behind, he resolved that House Blackwood needed a new beginning, renaming the house and founding House Brightstar.
