Editing House Bracken of Oldwithe

House Bracken is one of the oldest families of [[the Riverlands]]. They rule from Sallydance and are vassal to [[House Bracken]]. They are also known as the "Good Brackens".

== History ==

The Brackens of Oldwithe, also known as the Good Brackens, are often viewed as a lesser Bracken branch compared to the historic rivals of the Old and New Brackens. Their line descends from Dommen Rivers, the bastard son of [[Brogg Bracken|King Brogg Bracken]]. 

After the invasion of the [[Southron Stones|Southern Stones]] by [[Armistead Vance|King Armistead Vance]], Stone Hedge saw itself with competing young children for the inheritance: Edgar Bracken, a hostage of the [[House Mudd|Mudd]] kingdom and considered the rightful heir by the now late King Brogg, and Yorick Rivers, the bastard son of Brella Bracken, daughter of King Brogg Bracken, and personal ward and squire to both the warlord [[Vorian Vypren]] and later King Armistead himself. As chaos ensued the Bracken realm, the young Dommen and his mother Alyna managed to find refuge within the castle of Oldwithe, a once proud fortress left mostly destitute and defenseless after the invasion. It was the hope of the two outcasts that if they put up no resistance and served whatever figurehead boy that would be placed as lord, they would be allowed to stay. While losing their claim to Stone Hedge in this action, it did guarantee safety for Dommen Rivers and his descendants, who through keeping to themselves, are still allowed to worship the gods of old to this day in their humble holdfast.

The Good Brackens got their name due to their remarkable record of maintaining loyal vassalage to the Brackens of Stone Hedge, as well as their sigil colors from Dommens marriage to Rymella Goodbrook, the last surviving member of the once great [[House Goodbrook]], which was conquered by the Andal house of [[House Den Ford|Den Ford]], a subject of the [[House Vance|Vance]] Kings of the Rivermark.
