House Banefort claims descent from the Hooded Man, the first in a long line of necromancer kings known as the Hooded Kings. The last of their line, Morgon Banefort, was defeated, together with his thralls, after a twenty-year war against [[Loreon I Lannister]]. As he lay dying, Morgon cursed his vanquishers, vowing to return from the grave. In response, Loreon had his body cut into pieces and fed to his lions. Yet two years later, those same lions broke free within [[Casterly Rock]], slaying three of Loreon's sons. Since then they've been sworn to the lions of the Rock as vassals.
House Banefort has been the subject of constant ironborn raids, leading to the almost extinction of the house. During the reign of King Tyrion I Lannister, the Baneforts grew close to the crown and dwindled to only a few living members, one of which was Magnar Mordred, a disfigured and odd man that ruled the Banefort and was rumoured to have come from the sea and not a mother's womb. The Baneforts fought against rebels in the Rock alongside the Lannys, contributing ironborn mercenaries.
