When his twenty-first nameday passed, he decided to ride south to avenge his father's failures in Dorne. Arriving alone at Wyl, he demanded a duel with the Yronwood king, Yorick III. He retreated into the marches when Balder Stormblessed named himself Storm King in Storm's End, and rallied the more traditional Stormmen to his banners in the Great Stag Duel. His armies clashed with Balder's in the heartlands of the kingdom, and he largely defeated the Stormblessed's banners, but in doing so he bled his own forces dry. Beron the Boring captured Storm's End with Balder having fled to the Slayne, and Durran's forces couldn't beat back the support Beron accrued from the Rainwood.
